HEALTH WORKERS WHO SUPPORT GEZI RESISTANCE WILL BE REPORTED FOR CRIME

The first line emergency medical care for those who are wounded by AKP attacks to Gezi Park events, is provided by volunteer doctors on self established field infirmaries. Ministry of Health threated those infirmaries where many volunteer health worker serve, with reporting them for criminal activity.

Minister of Health Mehmet Müezzinoğlu anounced that he will be filing report of crime to district attorney for those who perform treatments or write prescriptions to Gezi Park protestors in these volunteers' infirmaries.
According to the report of Önder Yılmaz from newspaper Milliyet, Minister Müezzinoğlu evaluated the events started on Taksim Gezi Park and spread across the country from a public health point of view, while together with a group of reporters on TBMM. Minister Müezzinoğlu who claimed that 37 ambulances have been damaged on the events, said "There can be protests, but burning, demolishing, damaging is not correct. We transported 951 patients with ambulances. We are performing their medical care. We provide medical services to those who ask. There have been case where medical staff has been yelled or insulted".
Minister Mehmet Müezzinoğlu said that, these infirmaries gathered to provide emergency medical care to those who are wounded on the events are illegal and that they are going to start legal actions.
Müezzinoğl said, “According to me, this isn't right. There are the anouncments of call to the service from Turkish Medical Association but there is no gap in medical service provided today. There is a different ideology and an application against the legal structure. Therefore I find that anouncement illegal too. We will start legal action against Turkish Medical Association too."
It was seen that contrary to the declaration of Minister protestors did their best to facilitate the movement of ambulances.
The Minister's declaration that there is no gap in provided health services has been found hard to believe. During police attacks to protestors there has been tens, and at times hundereds of wounded. The first line emergency medical care of these wounded are performed by voluntary health professionals. Minister is expected to explain what kind of health service has been provided to wounded protestors on field, in context of his "no gap in health service" declaration.
